Our church has been active since 1977. We are one of about 300 Metropolitan Community Churches in 22 countries around the world, a denomination founded in 1968 by the Rev. Troy Perry. MCC New Haven's staff includes a Pastor, Vice Moderator and Music Director. In addition there are many volunteer leaders leading us in our mission.
We are Metropolitan. Just as a city includes people who differ racially, culturally, economically, politically and theologically, we value inclusivity, and strive to be open to people from diverse backgrounds. We are urban, and consider the problems and challenges of the greater New Haven area to be our own. And just as a city is as big as its dreams, our mission and our potential is unlimited.
We are Community. This is a place where friends are made, where support is shared, a place for caring. We attempt to meet human needs great and small. Although open to anyone who wishes to be part of us, we are the church of the lesbian and gay community, and it is here that we focus our ministry. We believe that God is present in all loving relationships, and that sexuality, including lesbian and gay sexuality, is a gift from God.
We are a Christian Church. We believe that God loves all people. We believe that the life and teaching of Jesus Christ is relevant to us today, and we affirm the presence of the risen Christ continuing to heal, challenge and comfort us.
Our Mission Statement:
- celebrate God's unconditional love,
- care for one another,
- cultivate our faith and
- carry God's justice to the world.
